New venue: Bremen parliament house

The 37th International Cotton Conference will be held in an exciting new venue: the Bremen Parliament House next to the Bremen Cotton Exchange. Thus, the event will remain at the Bremen market square with short distances to all other locations of the conference. This bright and welcoming house will become the center of the cotton community for three days when more than 400 guests from all over the world arrive in Bremen. In the banquet hall participants will follow the newest cotton insights and can enjoy the magnificent view of the market square with the renowned ensemble of historic buildings.

The Parliament House is located directly at the Bremen market square in between the Bremen Townhall and the Bremen Cotton Exchange. The building from the 1960ies offers its own distinctive historical atmosphere from the 20th century.

Usually, the “Haus der Bürgerschaft” is home of the Bremen Parliament (Bürgerschaft), the elected representatives of the state Bremen.

New study shows low environmental impact by Cotton made in Africa Organic Cotton from Tanzania

Today, the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) is announcing the results of a comprehensive life-cycle analysis (LCA) for cotton produced in Tanzania under the Cotton made in Africa Organic (CmiA Organic) standard. The study emphasises the small ecological footprint of CmiA Organic verified cotton. This can largely be traced back to the absence of synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilisers, and artificial irrigation. Consequently, CmiA Organic cotton can help the textile industry meet regulatory requirements as well as science-based targets. The results also show that the consequences of climate change threaten the livelihoods of these cotton farmers, even though the type of agriculture they practise barely contributes to climate change.
