Lindauer DORNIER appoints new technical managing director

Lindauer DORNIER GmbH is strengthening its management team. Dr Holger Niemeier will take over the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) as of 1 November 2024 and will thus be responsible for the technological developments of the internationally operating machine and plant manufacturer in future.

With a doctorate in mechanical engineering, Dr. Niemeier possesses comprehensive in mechanical engineering and many years of international experience in special machine construction, particularly in the areas of film and flexible packaging. At DORNIER, he will be responsible for the areas of research and development, production and digitalisation with a focus on AI.

From the Venus flytrap to foldable aircraft wings: Peter Dornier Foundation Prize 2025 honours bionic research on 3D weaving technology

Long wings with foldable tips have the potential to reduce aircraft fuel consumption and make aviation more sustainable. An interdisciplinary research team has now developed a new solution based on the Venus flytrap: Freely movable wingtips made of fibre composites which are produced using innovative 3D weaving technology. For this pioneering combination of textile technology, aviation and bionics, researchers Patrick Meyer (TU Braunschweig) and Michael Vorhof (TU Dresden) were awarded the Peter Dornier Foundation Prize 2025 in mid-July.

Pattern-controlled “pic-a-pic” setting of rapier release timing on right-hand side

DORNIER PIRO enables the operator to set the timing of the rapier release on the right-hand side of the machine “pic-a-pic” and pattern-controlled. For applications with weft yarns of different fineness or elasticity, the optimum timing can be set for each weft channel. This offers great potential for reducing weft waste on the right-hand side.

Solution for lower energy consumption proves itself in practice

Mayer & Cie., the long-established German manufacturer of circular knitting and braiding machines, will cease operations after its international search for an investor ended without success. A major European research initiative coordinated by Fraunhofer UMSICHT has been launched to develop integrated solutions for textile waste recycling. The AUTOLOOP project aims to create a comprehensive system that could process 1.24 million tonnes of textile waste annually by 2050, whilst potentially creating over 130,000 green jobs across the EU. This project aims to develop, test and integrate automated sorting, tracing, and closed-loop recycling technologies for polyester-based textiles (NRT), addressing the pressing challenge of textile waste management.

CARBIOS and Wankai sign strategic PET biorecycling pact
