TenCate Advanced Composites changes its name to Toray Advanced Composites

Toray Industries, Inc., a Japanese advanced material manufacturer, formally announced that its subsidiary, TenCate Advanced Composites will change its name to Toray Advanced Composites. TenCate Performance Composites, a subsidiary of TenCate Advanced Composites, will subsequently change to Toray PMC.

Toray, a leading global supplier of carbon fiber and composite materials, acquired TenCate Advanced Composites in 2018, and has been working in recent months to integrate them into the Toray Group. This name change will continue to demonstrate to customers the alignment with the Toray Group of brands and will be reinforced by a new visual identity.

Toray has a long heritage of product innovation and production excellence that will help reinforce Toray Advanced Composites’ strengths and will enable us to more effectively support our customers in growing markets.” said Keisuke Ishii, Chief Executive Officer of Toray Advanced Composites.

The new names have been officially unveiled at the JEC World 2019 which commenced March 12, 2019 in Paris, France. The name changes will be completed by July 17, 2019.

Toray develops recycling technology that retains carbon fiber strength and surface quality

Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that it has developed a recycling technology that can decompose diverse carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) made from thermosetting resins while retaining the strength and surface quality of those fibers. The company drew on this technology to create a nonwoven fabric employing recycled carbon fibers.

Award-winning research for sustainable carbon fibre cycles

Sustainable recycling of carbon fibres is possible through targeted electrochemical surface modification, which makes the sizing of carbon fibres resistant to solvolysis. ITA PhD student Sabina Dann was awarded the MSW Award from RWTH Aachen University for her master's thesis on this development. The award ceremony took place on 12 November 2025 in Aachen.
