DORNIER introduces contactless chain wear detection for clip chains

DORNIER has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation in chain wear detection technology, offering enhanced efficiency and reliability for clip chains. The new contactless measurement system enables easy recognition of maintenance intervals and reduces the wear and tear on parts.

This advanced system determines chain elongation by measuring the position of the inlet head, eliminating friction between moving components. By operating within the permitted elongation range, the chain’s performance and longevity are optimized.

The continuous monitoring of chain elongation allows operators to accurately determine the chain’s service life and fully utilize it before sending it to the clip workshop for an overhaul. This innovative approach ensures precise maintenance planning and reduces downtime, significantly enhancing productivity.

With this latest development, DORNIER reaffirms its commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that maximize efficiency and reliability for its customers.

Benedikt Neitzel from the Technical University of Ilmenau for his doctoral thesis on pore minimisation in the RTM process, and Johanna Buschmann, M.Sc., for her master’s thesis, completed at the German Aerospace Centre, on the improved impact tolerance of 3D fabrics compared to 2D laminates.
