Denim continues to evolve, responding to changing consumer expectations for comfort, adaptability and functionality across different styles, occasions and seasons. At Kingpins Amsterdam, taking place October 14–15, Eastman Naia™ highlights how the versatility of Naia™ Renew staple fiber can help manufacturers address different denim needs through thoughtful fiber blending, while preserving the distinctive character of denim.

Naia™ Renew staple fiber blends with natural fibers, other man-made cellulosic fibers and synthetics, allowing manufacturers to develop fabrics with different characteristics. Its versatility spans three established denim directions: Authentic, Fashion and Performance. Blended with cotton, it adds lasting softness and dry comfort to classic denim constructions. Combined with lyocell, it supports lighter, softer fabrics suited to contemporary silhouettes. In blends with polyester or recycled polyester, it contributes quick-drying properties and odor management for more functional everyday applications. Across these different approaches, Naia™ Renew allows mills and designers to adapt fabrics to specific needs while maintaining denim's distinctive identity.

“Denim has always been a versatile category, and today brands and manufacturers are looking for greater flexibility in how fabrics look, feel and perform,” said Chad Doub, Global Market Segment Manager, Casual Wear & Home at Eastman. “What makes Naia™ Renew particularly interesting is its ability to work with different fibers and constructions, giving our mill partners the flexibility to develop fabrics for a wide range of applications. Collaborations like those showcased at Kingpins demonstrate how material versatility can translate into meaningful choices for denim brands and designers.”

The potential of Naia™ is reflected in new developments from global mill partners. Advance Denim features new collections with Naia™ Renew, while Cone Denim® showcases fabrics incorporating Naia™ fibers at Kingpins Amsterdam for the first time. Among the examples developed by Cone Denim® are Cruz, which combines authentic denim character with stretch and flexibility, and Cecil, a softer, medium-weight construction designed for a variety of contemporary silhouettes. These developments illustrate how different fiber combinations can support distinct design and functional requirements, expanding the possibilities of denim.

Alongside its versatility, Naia™ Renew staple fiber offers denim manufacturers an opportunity to integrate certified recycled content into their material choices. Made with 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% GRS-certified recycled content, allocated through a certified mass balance process, Naia™ Renew is produced using Eastman's molecular recycling technology. This technology breaks down hard-to-recycle waste into molecular building blocks that can be used to create new cellulose acetate fibers.

Through this approach, Naia™ Renew brings together material circularity and the comfort and functional characteristics required for different denim applications, supporting manufacturers and brands as they explore new possibilities for a continuously evolving category.
