GORE-TEX® KIDSWEAR launches innovative membership scheme for kids’ jackets

With its revolutionary new membership model, GORE-TEX® Kidswear now offers families a simple, flexible and sustainable way of kitting out their children in top-quality jackets. It is aimed at the parents of children aged between five and ten and kicks off with a choice of functional winter jackets.

The jackets are waterproof, windproof, breathable and reliably warm. They are designed to last and be reused as much as possible as part of a smart circular system including repair services. Every return is professionally checked, cleaned, sanitised and repaired, if necessary, so it is fully prepared for its next adventure.?

The renting model is based on a membership system starting with a minimum commitment of three months after which it can be extended or cancelled as required. The monthly membership fee covers all damage, free size swaps, access to different styles, up to four jackets a year as seasons change, and on top of all that free delivery and returns.

This approach helps parents save time and money by taking away the hassle of reselling outgrown jackets. At the same time, it extends the life of the jackets, reducing waste and conserving resources. “Our membership model combines quality, flexibility and sustainability in a smart circular system that takes the hassle out of everyday family life,” says Stephan Schwarz, new business champion - Fabrics Exploration, W. L. GORE & Associates.

?With this major step forward, Gore Fabrics is pioneering a new approach in the children’s wear segment. The membership system was first introduced in Germany in mid September. The project aims to address the specific needs of families by providing them with top-quality, durable products while also making an active contribution towards creating a circular economy. This means that children’s jackets are kept in use for longer and families can make informed choices without having to compromise on comfort or protection. At the same time, this initial pilot phase will involve a steep learning curve as the services and products are continually optimised based on feedback from parents. The prospect of this approach being implemented in other markets will depend on the success of the pilot phase.

Gore revolutionized the outerwear industry with waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® fabric more than 40 years ago and remains a leading innovator of performance apparel. Gore fabrics products provide comfort and protection in challenging environments and in everyday life, enabling wearers to safely and confidently achieve and experience more. From hiking in downpours to military operations and fighting fires, Gore’s deep understanding of consumer and industry needs drives development of products with meaningful performance advantages.
