Reconomy joins leading alliance to accelerate textile recycling in Europe

Reconomy, the international circular economy specialist, announces that it has joined ReHubs, a leading alliance dedicated to accelerating the transition to a circular textile economy across Europe.

ReHubs brings together over 30 leading organisations from across the textile value chain – collectors, sorters, recyclers, brands, Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) and policy experts – to accelerate circularity. Through joint projects and the ReHubs Think Tank, it promotes investment, knowledge sharing and coordinated action across the sector.

As a global leader in operating Textile EPR schemes, Reconomy works with some of the world’s most recognisable brands and producers to manage their obligations. EPR is gaining traction across Europe, assigning producers financial responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products, including collection, reuse, recycling, and disposal. Reconomy offers a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for textile brands and producers to meet EPR compliance and access greater circularity options. Central to this is its extensive network of textile sorters and recycling partners capable of supporting both closed and open loop recycling solutions. Joining ReHubs will enable Reconomy to expand this already extensive network and share best practice and knowledge with other stakeholders.

This announcement comes as Europe is facing a textile waste crisis with less than half of used garments collected for reuse or recycling, and only 1% of used clothes are recycled into new clothes.

Managed workwear services are providing a blueprint for the circular textile economy

Managed workwear service providers are demonstrating how commercial success and circularity can go hand in hand by extending garment lifespans through repair, laundering, reuse and recycling, according to “Managed workwear services—a circular textile economy ahead of the game”, a new 14‑page report from the global business information company Textiles Intelligence.

Eco-design as the foundation of circular textiles

Based on the results of an extensive European analysis, the Erasmus+ project Skills4Circularity is currently developing three practice-based training modules covering recycling technologies, eco-design for the circular economy and sustainable manufacturing. This was preceded by a comprehensive company survey and a joint analysis conducted by the project partners under the leadership of IVGT. The results show that the greatest challenges lie not so much in a lack of technology as in skills gaps.

As brands and retailers explore more diversified and responsive sourcing networks, the Naia™ brand from Eastman is strengthening its engagement with the textile and apparel value chain across the western hemisphere. Europe is committed to recycling end-of-life wind turbine blades

Starting in 2026, Europe’s wind energy industry has committed itself to ensuring that wind turbine blades do not end up in landfills once they reach the end of their service life. The EU-funded research project REWIND is exploring ways to reuse this composite waste. The German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF) are one of 13 project partners from seven countries.
