Ahlstrom has completed a major investment in its Kingston manufacturing facility in New York, USA, expanding production capacity for high-performance depth filtration media. The modernization of Line 3 is designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, enhance quality control and increase flexibility in producing different product widths.

The investment strengthens Ahlstrom's depth filtration media portfolio, which serves applications in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical processing, food and beverage production, and industrial liquid filtration.

Depth filtration media are used to remove particles and impurities from liquids, helping to maintain consistent product quality and support reliable filtration processes. In pharmaceutical manufacturing and beverage clarification in particular, filtration performance and material consistency are critical requirements.

Improved manufacturing flexibility and process control

The upgrade includes the modernization of key production equipment and process control systems. According to Ahlstrom, these improvements increase manufacturing precision and process stability while supporting more consistent product quality.

The expanded production capabilities also enable the Kingston facility to manufacture a wider range of filtration media widths, providing greater flexibility in meeting customer requirements.

“This investment reinforces our commitment to providing customers with high-performance depth filtration solutions,” said Tamara Quatrano, Vice President, Lab & Life Sciences Business, Ahlstrom. “By expanding our manufacturing capacity, enhancing product flexibility, and strengthening quality control, we are better equipped to meet evolving market requirements and support our customers’ growth.”

Strengthening supply capabilities for critical applications

The investment is intended to support growing and changing requirements in markets where reliable filtration performance is essential, particularly life sciences, food and beverage processing, and industrial liquid filtration.

“Completing this complex upgrade safely was a remarkable team effort,” said Ashish Pannu, Head of Depth Filtration, Ahlstrom Kingston Plant. “Our colleagues worked closely with contractors and technical partners throughout the project, demonstrating outstanding expertise, dedication, and a shared commitment to safety.”

With the completed modernization, Ahlstrom is expanding its manufacturing capabilities for fiber-based depth filtration media while strengthening production flexibility and quality assurance at its Kingston facility.
