Yarn Expo Spring to welcome sustainability and innovation in April 2022

© 2022 Messe Frankfurt
After hosting successful spring and autumn editions in 2021, Yarn Expo will return to the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from 14 – 16 April 2022. The fair will again support business facilitation for the international fibre and yarn industry, with exhibitors taking the opportunity to display their latest innovative products. Alternative and sustainable materials are without a doubt expected to be highlights of the show, in keeping with global consumer trends and government policies.

Organic, regenerated, recycled are the top buzz words when it comes to sustainable fibre and yarn products. As an increasing number of consumers pursue more eco-friendly lifestyles and consumption habits, non-traditional organic plant fibres extracted from hemp, lotus flowers, pineapple leaves, discarded coffee grounds, banana trees, various fruits and more, are now becoming a common alternative for mainstream fashion products.

Recycled yarns are also gaining considerable traction with the recycled yarn market forecast to reach USD 5 billion by 2025, after growing at a CAGR of 6.5% during 2020 – 2025. In China, the government recently released another five-year development plan, following its announcement of the 14th Five-Year Plan for textiles in summer, for accelerating several industries’ green initiatives. Highlights of the plan include promoting the recycling of renewable resources such as textile waste; this added support from the governement is expected to further fuel the opportunities in China’s recycled yarn market.

Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd said: “Yarn Expo has continued to support the industry throughout the uncertainty brought about by the pandemic. Not only has it served as a platform for business exchange in times of difficulty, it has promoted and facilitated the introduction of new, innovative products and solutions, to align the industry with developing global trends. Fairgoers in 2021 noted the considerable innovation and development happening in the market, especially in China, with more and more companies centreing their business strategies upon sustainable goals and targets. We look forward to further encouraging a more green future for the sector as we approach the Spring Edition in April 2022.”

Mr Kyle Guo, Senior Exective at Texperts India Private Ltd, reported on the popularity of their more eco-friendly products at the fair in 2021: “Yarn Expo is an ideal trade fair that we have been exhibiting at for many years. We are highlighting our organic cotton products this year as these products are becoming more popular, with people paying more attention to the concept of sustainability. We have already received a lot of enquires about our organic cotton and have met with a great number of new customers.”

Meanwhile, Mr Carl He, General Manager of Enrich Fabrics & Cotton Brand Company at Guangzhou Textiles Holdings Ltd in China spoke about their experience: “At the fair, I saw a lot of environmentally friendly, renewable and biodegradable products, these are the purchasing trends for this season. Some domestic brands are at an exploration phase in these areas, but there are some mature brands too, so Yarn Expo serves as a nice communication platform. Having participated at the fair for so many years, its professionalism in the industry is beyond doubt and I am very satisfied with the overall sourcing results this year.”
