Techtextil 2017 and the Dornbirn Man-made Fibres Congress develop joint interest

Techtextil and the Dornbirn Man-made Fibres Congress (MFC) in Austria are collaborating on their next editions. This year’s MFC - from 20 to 22 September - will be the 55th time the congress has been held and participants will have the opportunity to visit Techtextil’s information stand to see what is on the agenda of the next Techtextil, the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens (9 to 12 May 2017).
  • Techtextil and the Dornbirn Man-made Fibres Congress aim to create stronger links between textile research and application
  • Collaboration between Avantex and the Austrian Chemical Fibres Institute
In turn, Dornbirn MFC will put together a three hour block of lectures as part of the Techtextil Symposium 2017 and will also be represented with a stand at the trade fair.

“In sectors such as technical textiles and nonwovens that are driven by innovation there is a close link between research and application. The Dornbirn MFC provides a platform to present the results of the latest research, while Techtextil shows ‘real life’ product innovations”, explains Michael Jänecke, Director Brand Management Technical Textiles & Textile Processing at Messe Frankfurt. In the words of Friedrich Weninger, managing director of the Austrian Chemical Fibres Institute: “Our collaboration creates an even stronger link between research and practice and provides added inspiration for visitors to both events”.

This will be the 19th time the Techtextil Symposium is held (9 to 12 May 2017). It features international experts from research and industry presenting current research results and products covering all aspects of technical textiles and nonwovens. The symposium takes place in conjunction with the Techtextil and Texprocess trade fairs. In addition to the recognized lectures on specialist topics, there will for the first time be roundtable discussions and workshops. The lecture topics for 2017 will be selected by an international jury of experts from the topic suggestions submitted.

Collaboration between France and Austria

Avantex, the international trade fair for high-tech fashion fabrics in Paris, is also collaborating with the Austrian Chemical Fibres Institute in the context of the Dornbirn MFC. Since September 2015 Avantex has been organised by Messe Frankfurt’s French subsidiary. Visitors will benefit from the fact that the two events, Avantex and the Dornbirn MFC, have been scheduled close together. Avantex is being held from 12 to 15 September and the Dornbirn MFC in the following week from 20 to 22 September. This makes it possible, for example, for visitors from the Middle East to combine both events. Apart from sport and protective clothing applications, textiles with added functionality are also used increasingly in fashion. Through collaboration with Dornbirn as a platform for textile research, Avantex aims to forge a greater link between science and application. Indeed, the two partners also benefit from their geographical proximity and the strength of Europe as a centre of fashion and innovation.
