INDEX™20 moved to October and expanded to include hybrid format

Since the beginning of the global pandemic, the desire to provide the nonwovens community with an outstanding industry showcase, whilst ensuring the best possible health protection and safety to a broad international audience, has been of paramount concern to the INDEX™ Organisers.

Due to on-going travel restrictions and unforeseen delays in vaccination programmes, the Organisers are forced to recognise that the lifting of the Swiss federal governmental restrictions regarding sizeable gatherings of people and a consequent return to normal business, may take a little longer than anticipated.

To ensure that INDEX™20 has every opportunity of taking place this year, the INDEX™20 Organisers, PALEXPO and EDANA, have decided to adopt two important measures, designed to guarantee the widest possible visibility and participation for all.

The first is to announce that INDEX™20 is postponed until 19 – 22 October 2021.

As a major international event in the nonwovens calendar, the Organisers feel they must take advantage of every possibility of maximising visitor attendance and ROI for exhibitors. Delaying the event for an additional 6 weeks will increase the opportunities for a broader range of participants to attend INDEX™20 in person. Naturally, the strictest health protocols will be applied and rigorously observed at the event, to ensure the best conditions are in place for conducting business safely.

The second initiative is to introduce a comprehensive virtual platform for INDEX™20. This exciting digital tool will enable the over 14,000 exhibitors and visitors to interact directly if they so wish, extend the event’s reach both in terms of geography and applications, and provide live and on-demand product content and information. A data-driven matchmaking facility will assist participants in contacting and networking with like-minded attendees in their particular sector.

Sustainability: European industry calls on EU to keep Single-Use Plastics Directive unchanged

A broad coalition of European industry associations, including EDANA, Euratex and Plastics Europe, has urged EU institutions to maintain the current legal framework of the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD). In a joint statement, the organisations argue that reopening the Directive at this stage would create legal uncertainty, increase regulatory complexity and undermine investment, while its implementation across the European Union is still incomplete.

EDANA announces five new board members following 2026 Annual General Meeting

The EDANA Board of Governors is elected or re-elected at the Annual General Meeting by the member companies. The Governors are senior executives (business leaders) from member companies, based in different countries and representing different sectors of the nonwovens industry. The Board has central responsibility for guiding EDANA's overall strategy and approving its policies and priorities. It meets three times a year.

Mayer & Cie. Global gears up tor ITMA Asia 2026

Mayer & Cie. Global will focus on mattress fabric production at ITMA Asia, taking place in Shanghai from 20 to 24 November 2026. The company will showcase one of its flagship models for this application: the OVJA 2.4 EM. Joining the mattress fabric specialist will be an OV 3.2 QCe, presented at ITMA Asia in a configuration for knitting double-face fabrics in E40. This gives the OV 3.2 QCe a combination of capabilities rarely found in the market. The German textile machinery manufacturer will also introduce its new portfolio strategy and share updates from its development team at its Albstadt headquarters.

FET highlights advances in fibre spinning technology at Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress

Fibre Extrusion Technology Limited (FET) presented its latest developments in fibre spinning technology at the Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress in Austria in September 2026. In a presentation entitled “Spinning a good yarn”, Dr Jonny Hunter examined recent technological developments and challenges facing the fibre industry, highlighting the company's expanding range of specialised fibre extrusion and spinning systems.

Vietnam’s market evolution creates new sourcing opportunities at VIATT 2027
